Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't this tool work for my "Password to Open" file?
Microsoft Office uses AES-256 military-grade encryption for "Password to Open". When a file is encrypted this way, the data is scrambled and impossible to read without the exact password. Our tool only removes "Edit Restrictions", which are not encrypted but simply locked by internal software flags.
Can I unlock old .xls or .doc files?
No, this tool only supports modern Office formats (Office 2007 and newer) that use the XML-based structure (.xlsx, .docx). Older binary formats are not supported.
Will unlocking the file mess up my formulas?
Absolutely not. The tool safely targets only the specific XML tags responsible for sheet protection (`<sheetProtection>` or `<documentProtection>`). All your formulas, macros, and formatting will remain perfectly intact.
